Legal Name, SSN/Tax ID, and More
Currently enrolled students may update their Legal Name and more by following the instructions provided below.
Step 1: Collect documentation

Step 2: Submit your request online
Current Students
- Log into SIS Self-Service.
- On the left pane, click on Personal Info, then Summary
- Under the Required Information section, click on the Identity Management Form link
- Enter your request information and upload supporting documentation (when required)
- Submit your request and check your email for updates on your request
Alumni/Former Students
Student records are closed 30 days after graduation and/or discontinuation of enrollment, and information
contained therein cannot be updated. However, you may update your contact information with the Alumni
Association by clicking here.
NameCoach
Currently enrolled students have the option to use NameCoach to voice record the preferred pronunciation of their names, and clarify the pronouns people should use to refer to them within select university systems. Faculty and staff can use the NameCoach recordings to more easily learn the preferred pronunciation of student names by listening to the playback of the audio recordings in the systems listed below.
To record a name in Blackboard
- Log into https://blackboard.jhu.edu/
- Select "My Institution"
- In the "Tools" menu, select "NameCoach Recording Tool" as indicated in the image below.
- Follow the instructions on the NameCoach recording tool page. Please note that you can choose to record your name using the microphone on your computer, or have the NameCoach service call you at the phone number you specify to record your name using your phone.
To record a name in the Student Information System (SIS)
- Log into https://sis.jhu.edu/
- Select the "Personal Info" menu item and then "General Information"
- Click on [record name] as indicated in the image below
- Follow the instructions on the NameCoach recording tool page. Please note that you can choose to record your name using the microphone on your computer, or have the NameCoach service call you at the phone number you specify to record your name using your phone.
